How to care for your Teak furniture
Regular cleaning is essential as it reduces the chances of infestation or damage to the furniture. Not cleaning it properly can harbour mould and bacteria growth, both of which can lessen the furniture's life span and cause issues with the framework.
- Remove general surface dirt using warm soapy water and a stiff brush, rinsing off with a hose.
- To remove stubborn stains, we recommend using fine sandpaper when dry. Sand with, not against, the grain.
- Supremo does not recommend the use of a cover. Using an outdoor cover on teak garden furniture can sometimes cause issues like trapping moisture, which may lead to mould, mildew, or wood damage over time. Teak is naturally resistant to weathering and allowing it to breathe without a cover can help it stay dry and prevent deterioration.
- Supremo does not recommend the use of teak oil - it can make the furniture turn black, sticky and patchy.
- When left untreated outdoors the teak will gradually mellow to a light silver/grey colour.
- When left untreated outdoors the teak will become rougher to the touch as the surface grain lifts.
- Small cracks can appear as teak adjusts to its new environment.
- Cracks can alter in size according to the ambient temperature and humidity. The cracks will not affect the structural strength of the furniture.
